Publisher's summary

The next gripping Ryder and Loveday mystery from million-copy best seller Faith Martin!

As the Hughes family celebrates bonfire night, a terrible accident leaves the garden shed in flames - and father and grandfather Thomas trapped inside.

Tragic though it is, Thomas’ death passes without suspicion - until a local journalist makes accusations of a police cover-up in the press. WPC Trudy Loveday is sent to investigate and asks Coroner Clement Ryder to help.

But the more questions the two ask the less clear the case seems. There’s no evidence of foul play, and yet the dead man’s family is obviously hiding something. Then there are Thomas’ dubious business practices - was someone out for revenge?

All Trudy and Clement know for sure is that everyone is lying - and that they must find the truth....

Perfect for fans of Betty Rowlands, LJ Ross and Agatha Christie, you won’t be able to put this down until you’ve cracked the case!

A Captivating Detective Story

I loved the story line and all the interesting characters. It was read with such emotion it was almost unbearable to stop listening.
I am definitely going to listen to all Faith Martins books.

Constable Loveday Does It Agaon

Another great story in the collaboration of Constable Loveday and Clement Ryder.

Faith Martin gives us a great story and the narrator, Stephanie Racine, does an excellent job.

I hope there will be more in this series.

Book five, Unsatisfactory

This edition is not up to the entertainment value of the first four books in this series. If you are a fan of Ryder and Loveday, you might want to read the first crime solved by Loveday as a full fledged officer. The story was missing something. It needed just a little spice. Perhaps Martin is saving the reporter for another storyline, but really at the end of the last chapter there was nothing. I hope this is a one-off, I will give the next book a try, but it better be a little bit exciting.

Not my favorite

This is the fifth book in the series starring WPC(as women police constables were called back in the 60s) Trudy Loveday and city coroner Dr Ryder. I have enjoyed the previous books but I am sad to say this one was a tad disappointing. I was glad to see Trudy becoming more self-confident and reaching conclusions on her own. But the story itself was a bit dull with a story line that went nowhere.

It was a fairly quick read/listen just not my favorite.

The ending was a letdown so I look forward to seeing where the next book in the series goes.

The narration by Stephanie Racine was delightful.
