Publisher's summary

DI Kate Young can’t trust anybody. Not even herself.

In the bleak countryside around Blithfield Reservoir, a serial murderer and rapist is leaving a trail of bloodshed. His savage calling card: the word ‘MINE’ carved into each of his victims.

DI Kate Young struggles to get the case moving - even when one of the team’s own investigators is found dead in a dumpster. But Kate is battling her own demons. Obsessed with exposing Superintendent John Dickson and convinced there’s a conspiracy running deep in the force, she no longer knows who to trust. Kate’s crusade has already cost her dearly. What will she lose next?

When her stepsister spills a long-buried secret, Kate realises she’s found the missing link - now she must prove it before the killer strikes again. With enemies closing in on all sides, she’s prepared to do whatever it takes to bring them down. But time is running out, and Kate's past has pushed her to the very edge. Can she stop herself from falling?

5 Stars

I love the surprises and momentum. This is a great read. My only disappointment is that I forsee that the Dixon-story won't come to an end until many books later if ever. I want to see a wrap-up and soon. The writer can milk this angle for just so much longer and then it has to come to a thrilling end. Enough is enough!!!

Great story!

Loved the book, but the narration was difficult to listen to at times. A very sharp, choppy voice used for the main character is the reason I found it hard to listen to. As much as I loved the book, I can only give the narration two stars. I heard a totally different voice in my head while reading the Kindle version alongside the Audible. It was much less abrupt and more sympathetic.

Intense Crime Mystery

Another win er in the dark cri.e genre of the mystery section. In tense and fast paced, this mystery held my attention all the way to the end. The audiobook is sooo good!

Could not handle narration

The story may have been great but after getting into the book (about 10 chapters) the narration became unbearable. Extremely monotone. I sped it up then slowed it down but it was too distracting for me to be able to finish the book. It’s a very rare instance when I just cannot bear to finish a book, this was one of those instances.

get a new narrator

story was solid but the narrator really detracts from listening. I havecto put the reading speed at .9 to dimish the rapid choppy style.

decent story. disliked some of the voices

the audiobook was free otherwise I probably would not have listened to it. the story was decent. had a bit of an issue with the killer being so tough but he folded quickly when under questioning. my biggest issue was the voice of some of the characters. sounded like nails on a chalkboard to my ears...

Will Kate Finally Get Revenge

Kate is still reeling from the death of her husband. While trying to secretly investigate his murder, she must also find a monster who is attacking women and carving the word "Mine" on their back. She is also trying to rekindle her relationship with her sister, a victim of past trauma.

As she Investigates the assults/murders the attacks are eriely similar to her sister's attack 20 years earlier. Will Kate find the suspect before there is another victim?

Carol Wyer wrote a fast paced, twisting story that kept me enthralled to the end.
