Publisher's summary

Asuka Kawashima is a man without dreams.

Nightmares plague humanity and cross into the waking world - chasing after their dreamers and transforming them into hideous monsters that haunt New York City at night. When Asuka is faced with the choice of either dying or selling his soul to the Devil, he offers it in exchange for the chance to continue protecting people. But the Devil is sly, and while he takes Asuka’s ability to dream, making him immune to nightmares, it also removed Asuka’s abstract sense of dreaming. Now life is gray, hopeless, and without wishes.

A chance meeting five years later leads Asuka to Merrick Grace, a man who, despite the dismal world around them, still believes there will be a day when monsters cease to exist. When the Devil reappears, asking for a favor in return for his soul, Asuka must make another difficult decision...

If the chance to dream again - to share a life with Merrick, full of hope and happiness - is worth the risk of almost certain death.

Awesome story and great performance!

Great story and awesome performance. I have read it, when it was a part of anthology, but the narrator added a lot to the experience.

Deal with the devil

11:59 by C.S. Poe was given to me in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book. I have read the print version prior and listening to it really brought the nightmares and the devil to life. Wyatt Baker was fantastic as the narrator. The world building was so realistic I could hear the tap tap tap of the woman’s shoes on tile, I could feel the bright soul of a Merrick when he smiled and the despair of the city caught in a nightmare.

The best kind of short story

I loved this story. Asuka is gruff and loveable and the world building is amazing. I loved the performance by Wyatt Baker and thought he really brought the story to life. I highly recommend this story to anyone looking for romance, adventure, and just a touch of horror.

Would have loved a longer story!

Selling your soul to the devil!

Interesting novella, the plot was a bit more intriguing than the romance, but overall a quick listen. Bleak as heck though.

Utterly Amazing

I love this author’s work and this story was no exception. It’s not very long but so much is packed in-action and romance. There’s some top notch world building and it’s obvious, as with all her stories, that Poe does her research. The mcs have great chemistry and I wish I could’ve seen more of them together after the action. Once again Poe has knocked it out of the park. Along with great narration I recommend this story wholeheartedly.

Dreams can be Hell

I read this as a short story a few years ago but listening to it really brought the story to life. Wyatt Baker does a great job of making you feel for the main characters and their story. Asuka Kawashima made a deal with the Devil to stop dreaming in order to save his life but it also meant he couldn't love. Along comes Merrick Grace who gives Asuka hope that one day he might love again. This is truly a hero's journey as Asuka literally goes to hell and back to save the world and his soul. The audio version really brings C.S. Poe's world of an Apocalyptic NYC to life. You can almost taste the city! I was given a copy of the audio in exchange for an honest review and honestly, I really enjoyed listening to the story - and I now know how to pronounce Asuka's name!

A cool short listen

I usually like anything by CS Poe and even though this one was a bit different I still found it fun. The main thing that popped out to me was the POV in this one I don’t see too often but it worked well. Lots of creepy demons being slayed and a cool dude doing the slaying. This is a also a new to me narrator and I was pleased he did a good job with it. A bit short but we get all we need to enjoy a nightmare filled story.
