Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

Review: The Tawny Man #3: Fool's Fate
If you could sum up Fool's Fate in three words, what would they be?
Beware self-fulfilling prophecy!
What did you like best about this story?
Oh this was a tough story - the loss of Nighteyes is still troublesome. The loss of some pivotal characters was heartbreaking, and while necessary to the plot, no less easier to bear. Fitz's efforts to save the Fool were probably the most bittersweet moments for me.
Have you listened to any of James Langton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes - the previous two books in this series. He is a slipping genius. His accents/character voices cover the length and breadth of the United Kingdom and is such a pleasure to listen to. I will definitely be looking for more narrations/performances by him.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
FitzChivalry and the Fool's goodbye scene(s). They were heartbreaking and endearing in turns.

From start to finish it was excellent.
I have listened to all 6 books and really enjoyed them. Sometimes in books, fantasy in particular, we do not know what the future of a character is and finish stories during a short span. It was cool to know Fitz as he was when he turned from adolescent to a man.

Speechless
I have never taken an emotional rollercoaster like this book. Robin is a brilliant author and it shows in this epic conclusion to this trilogy.

would listen again, recommended
Lovely narration. James Langton has such a wonderful lilting reading voice, and clear diction. there are easily discernible voices and accents for each character.
The story fills out very well into the universe, with a few surprises. 4 stars for story mainly due to a few specific story items repeated a bit too much for emphasis, and for Fitz seemingly being dumb as a box of rocks or overly morose once or twice. Overall ties up the story very well.

Good But Predictable?!
Admittedly I found this story not quite as captivating as the first two in the series. I'm not sure why. The narrator was exceptional as before but perhaps the story was a little too predictable and long. Nevertheless I enjoyed this segment. I'm not sure if I'll continue the series!
