I grew up in the Appalachian foothills of north Georgia, near notable historic places in the Old Cherokee Nation, such as, New Echota, Red Clay, and Spring Place. During my early years, I spent summer evenings on Mawmaw's front porch listening spellbound as grownups told anecdotes from our family history as well as stories of local events from the past, including tales of the supernatural. Storytelling has been a big part of my life ever since. As a small child, I often entertained myself by imagining exciting stories, even before I could write. Now, when I enter a story world and watch the characters act out an interesting or exciting tale, I write down what they do and share it. As a Cherokee descendant and a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, it’s probably not surprising that some of my stories focus on that part of my heritage.
