Rosa Lowinger is a Cuban-born, U.S.-based writer and art conservator. The author of Tropicana Nights: the Life and Times of the Legendary Cuban Nightclub (Harcourt, 2005), a memoir and history of Havana’s most celebrated cabaret, Rosa writes about modern art, architecture, and Cuban culture for a diverse range of publications. In the 1990s, her play The Encanto File was produced by the Women’s Project and Productions at the Judith Anderson Theater in New York, and her essays and stories have been featured in Preservation, ArtNews, Witness, Bridges to Cuba, edited by Ruth Behar, and the newsletter of the Getty Conservation Institute. Known for her unique and in depth art and architecture-based Cuba travel itineraries, Rosa guest curated the 2013 exhibit Concrete Paradise: Miami Marine Stadium at the Coral Gables Museum, and co-curated Promising Paradise: Cuban Allure, American Seduction, at the Wolfsonian Museum in Miami Beach in 2016. She holds an M.A. in art history and conservation from New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. She has just completed an adventure novel about a Cuban schoolteacher that takes place in 1880s Wyoming.
