Rona Simmons is an Atlanta-area based author. Her first published works were novels, primarily works of historical fiction set in the first half of the last century. She set her latest work, A Gathering of Men (Koehler Books, 2022) during World War II, and drew on her passion for history and research to offer a unique perspective on the war. “The sweep of events, from the First World War, to the Great Depression, to World War II, had momentous impact on our lives,” she says, “and is a period we can still almost reach with our fingertips” as she demonstrates successfully here and in her prior work, The Other Veterans of World War II: Stories from Behind the Front Lines (Kent State University Press, 2020), celebrating the remarkable but often untold contribution of noncombat veterans. Rona Simmons's stories, articles, and interviews have appeared in regional and national literary journals and in online and print magazines and newspapers.
