Rodolfo is from Mexico City and after immigrating to the U.S. as a child, grew up between borders, balancing both sides' languages, cultures, and identities. He is not an award-winning poet and has thus far self-published a total of 1 book (Word Meal), which has never been on the best-sellers list of anything. His day job is as an internal medicine physician at UT Health San Antonio in both hospital and primary care medicine and teaching at Long School of Medicine. A few of his great joys within medicine are medical education (having completed a Fellowship in it) and narrative medicine, as well as motivational interviewing (both teaching and practicing the empathy-based communication style). He previously maintained two plants as writing companions—whom he regularly overwatered. He previously had four plants. Now, he thoroughly enjoys having a couple of feet-warming and heart-warming dogs accompany him as he writes. The rest of his time he spends either engaged in sports or running with said dogs. The dogs he waters without issue and they have no complaints—although, they admit, they have never read his writing.
