Richard J. Marks loves the challenge of unexpected narratives. A writer, speaker and educator living in the West Village of New York City, he is a citizen of the world whose writing blends culture and spirituality. Thought-provoking writing and captivating storytelling merges with music and art. Richard guides people to take responsibility for seeing and experiencing hope, freedom, and love; and that these messages are not any good without action behind them. He has transversed editorial, writing, production, and producer roles in high-quality journalism and long-form narrative storytelling (feature films, documentary, television, broadcast and print). In his 20's and early 30's, he was a full-time staff journalist at CNN and story development executive at National Geographic Feature Films. His late 30's and 40's were well-spent in national and international advocacy, communicating for national renewable energy, sustainability, and environmental initiatives. Now 52, he writes and counsels on spiritual and personal growth. In nonprofit advocacy, he is a founding and current Board member of Innocents at Risk, a public-private partnership with the United States Department of State to battle child trafficking through awareness programs aimed at educating the public. He is former Board Chairman of the Inland Ocean Coalition, whose mission is to create an inland movement that builds land-to-sea stewardship. None of us, he believes, escapes the demands, and joys, of personal responsibility. We can, each and every one of us, rise to the occasion. During COVID-19, many things have been a loss to so many — primarily of life, but also of material things like jobs and homes. But, there has also been a positive change. People are speaking to each other, showing kindness. We need to—and can—change our foundation on which we live.
