Richard Galli has been a litigation lawyer; Vietnam War vet; freelance Iraq War correspondent; news reporter/editor; unlicensed nursing care provider; power wheelchair fixer-upper; and sailor who swears that he has never run his little boat hard aground more than twice in one day. He has also been a writing Fellow at The MacDowell Colony. Richard has published three wildly dissimilar books: -- RESCUING JEFFREY [Algonquin Books] : A brutally frank yet sometimes lyrical memoir about hard decision-making during the first ten days of a family tragedy: "I had brought my son to life, and then I had to find a way to kill him." The New York Times Sunday Book Review called it "a huge story unflinchingly told." Spoiler alert: the paralyzed son did manage to save himself from his homicidal dad. -- HEARTS AND MINDS [previously titled Of Rice and Men / Random House] : An affectionately comic novel about Civil Affairs soldiers who roamed the scary wilderness in Vietnam not to kill and destroy, but to feed and to heal. It will make you laugh and cry and -- finally! -- burst with love for the young Americans who tried so hard to serve so well in our first big hearts-and-minds war. -- MILLIE'S LAMENT : A "comic legal thriller" series-starter featuring young lawyer Bert Spagnoli - the scrappy, resourceful and straight-shooting son of a mob family - who has a talent for knocking powerful people off their privileged pedestals. In Bert's first big case, his gorgeous young client Millicent Simmons wreaks vengeance on her alpha-male targets by giving them exactly what they want. Richard plans to write mostly comic stuff from now on because: "I need humor more than I need oxygen." He says he places exquisitely literary paragraphs between the plentiful smiles and chuckles.
