Maria Aduke Alabi is an Afro-Dominican poet and writer, born on August 22, 1977, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and currently resides in San Diego, California. She holds a degree in Accounting, with a diploma in business management and several studies related to the art of writing fiction and poetry. Folklorist by passion, author, and photographer, besides being a wife, mother, an entrepreneur, founder of Quisqueyana Press as her indie author publishing company www.quisqueyanapress.com. Write poetry since she was 9 years old. Most of her work some published and others in preparation range from poetry, spiritual writing, children books, and compilations and researches about Dominican Republic’s folklore. She has published two poetry books called "Voz de la Nostalgia" (first and second edition) and “Versos en Matices”, also has several poems published in different Anthologies. She has published children books like "Rain, Rain", "Llueve, LLueve", "Uno, Dos, Tres, Amigos- One, Two, Three Friends", "Pollito Chick", "ABC Apple Pie", "ABC Tarta de Manzana". Her main project is a collection of children traditional songs from the Dominican Republic named "Canciones Infantiles Tradicionales Dominicanas" consisting in seven volumes from where she published the volume one under the name of “Dona Semana, Canciones Infantiles Tradicionales Educativas; plus some spiritual and political journals. Her research work especially addresses the study of Dominican folklore, as well as the collection and conservation of its elements. Winner of several literary competitions: In 1993, literary talent contest organized by the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo. In 1994, national poetry contest to mothers organized by the Dominican National Library. Besides being a finalist in 2011 for various contests: "VIII Concurso anual de cuento breve y poesía de la Librería Mediática", Venezuela; the international competition "Inspiración Otoñal" and "Palabras entre el Centeno " organized by the Centro de Estudios Poéticos 2011 y 2012, España and a honor mention in the International Poetry Competition " Soy Mujer " organized by Mujeres Poetas Internacional in Dominican Republic. She has another new passion capturing images in form of photography. As an amateur photographer with a photography website www.juzt2imprez.com. She said: “The poetry fills a part of myself helping me take the things from inside to outside; the photography does the opposite, help me take the things from outside to the inside, send me outside, show me the world that I always know but with another eye. Photography give me the balance needed, expanding my artistic side in every sense" She loves social work that for she is a now former board member of San Diego Innovative Preschool Project (SDIPP), Chancellor William McGill School of Success in San Diego California, current with Sola Olagunju Foundation (SOF) and Progressive Young Women Association where she is the Life matron, both in Ibadan, in Nigeria all non-profit foundations. Member of National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures.
