For nearly thirty years, Leslie Baer Dinkel has run Local Hope, known in Guatemala as “Xela AID” and located in El Area Mám, one of the country’s most infamous poverty belts. Deploying educational scholarships, health care, clean water filters and job training, the organization fuels the rural Maya’s struggle to overcome the dire circumstances of their birth and to become self-reliant and thrive. For her work Dinkel has been honored by the United States House of Representatives and Senate as well as numerous service organizations, and was bestowed a Rotary Governor Award for Service. In her book "Hope Dancing," Dinkel has captured the essence of her journey to purpose through stories that will captivate, entertain, and inspire.
