Kathryn B. Kemp Ed.D: PhD, a product of the Chicago Public Schools, was born and reared in Chicago, IL. Her life career path has always been centered around education and music ministry. She became an ordained Baptist minister in 2014. Her love of writing came at an early age and her first published piece in 5th grade was a poem entitled "Clouds" selected for inclusion in a national children's anthology. Kathryn wrote love poems in high school and sold them for a quarter. Sacred Song Survival, Salvation In the African American Religious Experience, 2018, is her latest work on music, spirituality, and worship. It examines the relationship between sacred song and survival in the context of the christian church. Her second book - "Anointed To Sing The Gospel: The Levitical Legacy of Thomas A. Dorsey" 2015, winner of an Indie Next Gen Award in African American History-2016-examines the influence of Thomas Dorsey on sacred music as he returned to the church after leaving his secular music career. Oral narratives from people who knew him and those in sacred music are included. A challenge is given to 21st century Levites as they carry out the work of ministry in the churches and the world. Her first book, "Make A Joyful Noise: A Brief History of Gospel Music Ministry" 2011, her testimony, completed during cancer treatments, is the result of God compelling her to share the power of gospel, the genre that sings about God's goodness, grace, and salvation.
