MacIntosh, who is now based in Los Angeles, has also worked as a reporter and correspondent for Reuters, and in 2003 was named one of NewsBios' "Top 30 Business Journalists Under 30." She won a Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in business journalism at Columbia University and earned a master's in journalism from Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism. After receiving the competitive Wiegers Fellowship, she then earned a master's of business administration from Columbia's Graduate School of Business.
