Jason Stein has reported on politics and business in Madison, Wis., since 2002, working for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and previously for the Wisconsin State Journal. Prior to that, Stein, 37, worked as a human-rights observer in Guatemala and Mexico. He holds a master's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master’s in linguistics from the University of Strasbourg in France, and a bachelor's degree in classics from the University of Kansas. He has served in the past as the president of the Wisconsin Capitol Correspondents Association as well as the University of Wisconsin-Madison student paper, the Daily Cardinal. His work has received national recognition from the American Society of News Editors, the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, the Inland Press Association, the Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors, and the Native American Journalists Association. He and his wife Amanda have two sons, Zane and Xavier. Co-author Patrick Marley started covering the state Capitol for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in 2004. Before that, Marley, 41, covered local government for the Kenosha News. His work has been recognized by the Wisconsin Freedom of Information Council and the Wisconsin Newspaper Association. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He and his wife, Denise, live in Madison with their daughter, Elsa.
