Jane Carter Woodrow has a PhD in Criminology from Cambridge University and has conducted extensive research with offenders in prison. As well as a crime author, she is also a playwright, TV scriptwriter and consultant. Her latest book "Between Two Worlds - a Detective Hoban novel" received an honourary award at the San Francisco Book Festival, May 2015. Of the central character, Jane says, 'I first came across Detective Chief Superintendent Dennis Hoban while researching my book "After Evil", the story of a teenage boy whose mum was murdered by the Yorkshire Ripper. Hoban, a maverick, led the Ripper case for a while. Sharply-dressed, he was inventive in his methods of bringing criminals to book, and may well have caught the Ripper had he lived long enough. But his remarkable policing record - like his humanity - came at a cost.' This thriller is set in '60s Leeds. When the body of an unidentified girl is discovered and another young person goes missing, Hoban is hell bent on unearthing the truth. Review of "Between Two Worlds - a Detective Hoban novel" 'Right from the very first chapter, I was mesmerized by this tightly woven mystery. Set in England, this fast paced novel carries the reader along with the its chief criminal investigator, "Detective Dennis Hoban" through what becomes a personal "never-give-up search" for a murderer of one young girl and the search for another... The story and plot is well-thought out and executed and I personally found that I hated to put the novel down for any reason. This author, J.C. Woodrow, has done her research and it is clearly evident in how well this novel is put together. Personally, as a fellow author/writer, I envy her ability to tell a difficult story in such a clear, believable fashion and I hated to see the story end. Will I recommend this novel to others? ABSOLUTELY!!!' Martha Stevens-David, Reviewer, ME, USA
