J. R. Beel is a proud father of two, entrepreneur, and the author of 101 Essential Life Skills for Teens. Raising twins has a unique set of challenges, especially as a single, working dad. J. R. Beel made it through the terrible twos and for several years, life seemed to settle into a nice family routine where everyone was able to do the things they wanted to and needed to! The tween years were somewhat amusing for Beel. He was able to start seeing the different interests and changes in his son and daughter. If the teenage years were going to be anything like this, Beel had it covered! Or so he thought! It was as if it happened overnight! His teenage twins become two people he hardly recognized. He could handle the lack of affection that was once essential for both of them. He could tolerate the grunts that replaced conversations. But what he couldn’t cope with was the constant reminder that he had no idea how hard life was for his teens. Refusing to feel like a slave who couldn’t relate to his teenagers, Beel began extensive research into what life was really like for today’s teens and what exactly they needed to thrive as they take this giant rite of passage to adulthood. Through his own experience as a teen and raising teenagers, Beel noticed that their young minds were filled with knowledge to pass exams but lacked the essential life skills needed to be successful, happy adults. This would often lead to frustration, even fear, and without crucial communication skills, troubled relationships with parents. Combining his experience with research, Beel discovered how adults can help their teenagers to navigate challenges, learn from them, and become more independent. His passion not only extends to helping teenagers but also their parents who feel lost and disconnected from their children. Beel loves spending time with his teens and what he has learned from raising them has taught him to enjoy all the experiences life brings. When he isn’t working on web development and graphic design, Beel loves to travel and listen to music— even what his teens are listening to!
