Dr. Holly Catterton Allen retired in 2022 as Professor of Christian ministries and family studies at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. While there, she held a joint appointment in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Bible and Ministry. As an adjunct professor, she currently teaches one course in the fall (Nurturing Spiritual Development in Children) and one in the Spring (Family Ministry). Dr. Allen’s areas of interest are children’s spiritual formation and intergenerational ministry. From 2015 to 2021, she chaired two biennial international, cross-denominational conferences: InterGenerate, http://www.intergenerateconference.com/ and the Children’s Spirituality Summit https://www.childrensspiritualitysummit.org/ . Dr. Allen’s Ph.D. is from Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, California. Her scholarly contributions are in the areas of intergenerational ministry and children's spirituality. Her most recent book is the revised and updated edition of "Intergenerational Christian Formation: Bringing the Whole Church Together in Ministry, Community, and Worship" (InterVarsity Academic, 2023), co-authored with Christine Lawton and Cory Seibel; the first edition was published in 2012 (IVP) with co-author Christine Lawton. Her other books include "Resilient Children: The Role of Spiritual Formation for Healthy Development" (InterVarsity Academic, 2021). She also edited the volume from the 2017 InterGenerate Conference held in Nashville, TN: "InterGenerate: Transforming Churches through Intergenerational Ministry" (Abilene Christian University Press, 2018). Her first book, "Nurturing Children’s Spirituality: Christian Perspectives and Best Practices" (Cascade), an edited volume, was released in 2008. Dr. Allen has published articles in journals such as Christian Education Journal, Lutheran Education, Lifelong Faith, and Christian Scholar’s Review as well as in Christianity Today; she has also authored chapters in twenty books. Dr. Allen is married to Dr. Leonard Allen and they have three adult children as well as five grandchildren. She and her husband enjoy hiking and cooking together; they especially enjoy making baklava with friends and students.
