Gary Beene (1951 - ) grew up on a farm in southern New Mexico. At Las Cruces High School he studied the 440-yard dash and continued that study in college with ten hurdles thrown in. He was not much of a student, but he sure could run. People used to say, "Gary has wheels!" Now, he just has flat tires. After 30 years working in the fields of Vocational Rehabilitation and Special Education, Gary retired in 2008 as the State Director of the New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He intended to spend more time pursuing his passions for whitewater boating, scuba diving, bicycling, and golf. However, as the nation's political discourse became more vitriolic, he decided to add his voice to the chorus for kindness. His retirement lasted about one month before he began working ten-hour days on THE SEEDS WE SOW: A STORY OF THE GREATEST KINDNESS. Gary states that kindness did not always come naturally to him. He says, "I was one of those poor saps who had to do a lot of personal work before understanding that only the merest quarter-turn of the heart separates us from life's abundance." His second book, GOD'S AVATARS: THE BETRAYAL OF BELIEF, was more challenging to write on a whole host of levels. Dealing with some of humanity's darker motives took more time and more emotion than a story about kindness. Both books share important, albeit very different, messages about the human condition. Gary's first novels, ALIEN GENESIS and ALIEN EXODUS, were released by Next Chapter Publishing in 2022 and 2023. They are available worldwide in multiple e-book formats, audiobook, paperback, large print, and hardcover. Gary's most recent work, 1/6: WILL BE WILD, is a political thriller / alternate history about the violent insurrection in Washington, D.C., on January 6, 2021. This cautionary tale was released in February 2024 and is available worldwide in e-book and trade paperback formats.
