Elizabeth Heaney had been a psychotherapist for nearly thirty years before leaving her private practice in order to counsel combat veterans on military bases. Listening to veterans and spouses as both an outsider and intimate, Heaney gained a profound perspective on the emotions running deeply—and often silently—in the hearts of combat veterans and their loved ones.
