A descendant of the artistic and literary community of the New England Transcendentalists, Charlotte Bacon Ripley Sorenson was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts into a Brahmin tea-drinking household. Her life changed when her family moved to the cultural community of Stockbridge in western Massachusetts. There they opened Pilgrims Inn, a family project that evolved into a bohemian-style artists' commune. A graduate of Wellesley College with a Master's Degree in Education from Lesley College, Charlotte has taught in Switzerland, the Philippines, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Before moving to Colorado, she lived for several decades in the Boston area as the wife and partner of Bud Sorenson who has served as a professor, a college president, and a company CEO. Married for 60 years, the Sorensons live in Boulder, Colorado. They have three children and eight grandchildren.
