She was named Candy Cotten at birth. Definitely a sweet sounding name, but as Candy grew, she felt sourness, bitterness and distaste for some of what life dealt her. As a child, she could not control what faced her, but she could control her attitude. As a child, Candy's attitude of stubbornness, faith and determination were her weapons of choice. With them, she found creative ways to deal with the pain of her parents divorce. Was the divorce her fault? Later in life as a mother, she faces the challenges and pain of not one, but two of her children being diagnosed with Chrohn's disease. A debilitating autoimmune disease that wreaks havoc on the intestines and mind. She does everything she can to calm and fight the monsters hurting and abusing her children's bodies. While her children are fighting for a pain free life, something else happened. Something awful. It too was not anticipated. On August 14, 2003, just before noon her husband Mike suddenly died in the hospital after a routine surgery. It wasn't supposed to happen. It shouldn't of happened. He was supposed to go home and be just fine. The wrongful death by a hospital employee takes on the biggest challenge as Candy tries to be strong for her own life and the lives of her three children. In her memoir Candy allows you to peek into her emotions with brutal honesty from childhood until the present. Through it all, Candy ends up in a place she could never imagined. Her memoir, Meet Me In The Mountains is abundantly inspirational, faith-filled and gives hope to those who feel life is too much to bear. She currently resides in the mountains of Pine, Az. with her husband Jim where she boldly admits that there are no coincidences and that God has used all she has encountered and fought for to lead her to where she is now.
