I've cared deeply and been on the front lines of women's progress for decades. I began my career in the early 1970's as a pioneering TV News and Sports journalist, and was inducted into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame for my role in opening sports locker rooms to female reporters. My work then took me to the auto industry, earning my business credentials at Ford Motor Company. For my work helping to lift the industry's "steel ceiling," Automotive News named me to its 1st list of “100 Leading Women in the Auto Industry.” I have also taken my own advice and ran for political office, serving as a City Councilwoman in Auburn Hills, Michigan. I am the mother of a 24-year-old son and the big sister in a family of seven children. My passion for helping girls and women has taken me all over the world, including assignments for the U.S. State Department in the Middle East, Europe and the Caribbean. Most recently, I was elected president of the MI chapter of the International Women’s Forum, which will bring 1,000 women leaders from 47 countries to Detroit, my adopted home, for a global conference in 2020.
