Andrew Parris was born in Hollywood, and grew up in Santa Monica, California. He earned a BS in Manufacturing Engineering from UC Berkeley, an SM in Technology & Policy from MIT and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. His PhD thesis was written as part of the Lean Aircraft Initiative, an MIT consort tasked with understanding if and how Lean applied to the design and production of aircraft. After graduating from MIT and a year at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Andrew worked for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company for eleven years, mostly on the Atlas Rocket Program. There he was trained and certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt. He received Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt training while part of the United Launch Alliance. Andrew next joined the World Vision International for nine years. He applied Lean Six Sigma in the NGO development and humanitarian aid context, including for three years in the World Vision East Africa Region. Andrew currently lives with his family near Lausanne, Switzerland. In 2017 he started to work for the humanitarian NGO Medair, where he is Process Excellence Manager. In addition to promoting process improvement, Andrew also works on strategy, ethics policies and training, an annual values survey, compliance, and a whole host of other interesting projects. Andrew has been spearheading and promoting the application of Lean (especially) and Six Sigma in the NGO context.
