Publisher's Summary

Myron hasn't heard from Terese Collins in years. Not since their affair ended with no explanation. There had been no contact since, so her call catches him off guard. She's in Paris, she says, in trouble, and only Myron can help. She tells him a sad story she's never before revealed: a good marriage, her struggles to get pregnant, the happiest moment of her life when her only child was born, the day everything she'd ever loved was taken from her. In the years since, Terese has had no contact with her ex-husband, until the phone call that brought her to Paris.

When she gets there he's been murdered, and she's a suspect. But then comes a startling piece of evidence that turns the entire case upside down, laying bare Terese's long-buried family secrets in a most shocking way and leaving Myron nowhere to turn for help. Caught in a foreign landscape where nothing is as it seems, he must tear apart the city - and eventually the globe - fighting for answers to unfathomable questions that will take Myron, and millions of Harlan Coben readers, where they have never gone before.

What the Critics Say

"[A] compulsive page-turner... The 'this could be me' factor lends poignancy to the thrills and chills." (Publishers Weekly starred review)
"[Coben's] genius is to make the seemingly mundane terrifying." (Booklist starred review)

From AudioFile

Hold on to your headphones! Harlan Coben's ninth Myron Bolitar adventure is a genuine edge-of-your-seat thriller. Myron answers a call for help from his ex-ladylove, Terese, and becomes entangled with terrorists, Interpol, Mossad, and Homeland Security. Myron knows he can depend on his good pal Win but can't be sure which group wants him dead. The plot zigzags from a fertility clinic to a black-ops prison to an ultraconservative anti-choice home for unwed mothers, and the bodies pile up. Steven Weber keeps things intense, from knock-down-drag-out encounters with killers to the hot-and-heavy rekindling of Terese and Myron's romance. When Myron is kidnapped and tortured, Weber's convincing pain will leave listeners gasping for breath. Myron's latest encounter with evil and Weber's terrific performance make this required listening. (c) AudioFile 2009

This was my first Harlan Coben book and will not be my last! Very fast paced and interesting characters which were believable because of the superb narration by Steven Weber.

A Myron Bolitar story that takes Myron to Europe where through an old girlfriend he finds himself in the middle of a terrorist plot. Well Done.

This was an exciting thriller with all the elements I look for when I purchase this kind of book from Audible-a good story, suspense, likeable main characters and a good narrator. Stephen Weber does an excellent job. I couldn't get over how much he sounded like Scott Brick without Brick's melodrama when it isn't called for. I was surprised that there were two versions of this novel, both unabridged) with different narrators.

The plot was quite farfetched but the characterizations were interesting. I especially enjoyed the smart-aleck banter between our hero and the French detective.
