Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Vain and charismatic Walter Sickert made a name for himself as a painter in Victorian London. But the ghoulish nature of his art - as well as extensive evidence - points to another name, one that's left its bloody mark on the pages of history: Jack the Ripper. Cornwell has collected never-before-seen archival material - including a rare mortuary photo, personal correspondence and a will with a mysterious autopsy clause - and applied cutting-edge forensic science to open an old crime to new scrutiny.

An In Between Story?
The book is not a standalone for sure which is usually fine. In this case there were so many references to so many characters and situations it was difficult to follow. The “case” was never fleshed out yet it dragged on and on. Too much ground to cover to continue the series.

My 1st book by this author - Loved it!
I don’t usually listen to books with violence but thought I’d try this because of the author’s fame. I was not disappointed. Great pacing and interesting story elements, such as Russian interference and militant dangerous Americans. Very likable characters. I just downloaded another audiobook by her. Recommended!
