Publisher's summary

Terry Hayes, author of the #1 global bestseller I Am Pilgrim, returns with this terrifying and eagerly awaited instant bestseller.

If, like Kane, you’re a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again—by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide—and when to shoot.

But some places don’t play by the rules. Some places are too dangerous, even for a man of Kane’s experience. The badlands where the borders of Pakistan, Iran, and Afghanistan meet are such a place—a place where violence is the only way to survive.

Kane travels there to exfiltrate a man with vital information for the safety of the West—but instead he meets an adversary who will take the world to the brink of extinction. A frightening, clever, vicious man with blood on his hands and vengeance in his heart...

The nonstop action

I loved this book even though I was reluctant to start it due to its length. I didn’t think anything in the genre that was so long could ever sustain a pace to make it worthwhile, but because I loved his first book, “I am Pilgrim,” I bought it and listened to it. I was wrong. Even at more than 20 hours listening time, this book is filled with action and suspense from beginning to end and the story flies by. This book has wonderful writing, with an outstanding story with twists and turns, and a completely surprise twist about 3/4 of the way through the book; and an explosive ending. In addition, the narrator hits all the right notes. I can’t recommend this audio version of the book more highly. If you love thrillers, buy this book.

Fantastic Novel

Wow! You’ll find such great writing and narration in this novel! Everything about it is superb. I can’t recommend it any higher. His first narrative was superb as well. I look forward to listening to all of his books in the future and can’t wait until everyone comes out.

Crazy story that Christopher Nolan should adapt

Started out as a good spy thriller and around part 3, a WTF moment happens that literally had me stopping what I was doing and hear it again. It’s been awhile that a book does that too me. Overall cool story, thrilling read, and great narrator.

One of the best ever.

The ability to connect with the reader is astonishing.
The emotion that shows up in the last section was unexpected.
A joy to read.

Weird

I read the first book in the series and thought it was great. I am confused how this is the next book in the series. It has nothing in common with the first other than starting out as a spy thriller. However the book turns sci-fi 3/4 of the way in. Not what I expected.

What an incredible ride!

Terry Hayes took his time to bang out this classic but it was worth the wait.

The one thing I appreciate about this story and the author was his ability to explain every single detail he gave us and how it all contributed to the story.....and what a story it turned out to be!!

I won't go into details because it will do a disservice to anyone picking up the book.

Jeff Harding and his narraration, simply amazing!

I know it will be a long time before his next book but I already look forward to reading this book again.

A mess of a book

Taking good start as a spy thriller it switches to science fiction, to zombi-post-apocaliptic and back to spy thriller.

The problem is that together it looks like a big mess.

Previous book (I am a pilgrim) was much shorter, clear and more interesting.

As for narration - it's good, but I, personally, hate when male narrator tries to imitate women voices and vice versa. Common, this is not a radio show.

The Myriad Twist & Turns.

The story captivated me from the beginning, and just when I thought I had it all figured out, the plot twist took me by complete surprise. It was unexpected and immensely satisfying. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an engaging and unpredictable read!

Close Eyes and Buy It... Thank Me Later

I don't want to give away anything but this was one of my favorite books of all time. And I thought "I am Pilgrim" was also one of my favorite books of all time and I've listened to a lot of books. whoever this Terry Hayes is. I like him and I think he'd be the kind of guy that I'd enjoy having a beer with.
