Publisher's summary
An unexpected story of life, family, hope and redemption – at the end of the world.
Arto has a problem. For one, he's a robot. He’s awoken with no memory of who he is, with nothing but a mysterious letter, in a world bereft of those fleshy, talky things that made him. So why is he alone, and where have all the people gone?
He stumbles upon a lost, cheeky kitten and selects it as his best friend for the adventure of a lifetime, trying to make sense of all this existence stuff. Just as Arto begins to fear he's the only sentient thing left on the whole planet, a cantankerous robot falls from the sky.
She says she's his sister.
And that's the problem, because she might be the reason there are no more people.
“Bell is a mercurial genius, a fearless imagineer, whose bold ideas fizz off the page with spry wit and distinct rhythm. Letters to Our Robot Son is a superb work that summons the speculative spirit of Phillip K. Dick, H.G. Wells and Charlie Brooker. Told with warmth, tenderness and courage, it’s an unmissable journey that will move, challenge and inspire.” - Craig Silvey
“Epic in every possible way. Big ideas. Big adventures. Big heart. Big questions. Cadance Bell reminds us why stories matter - particularly the ones we tell ourselves. She is a tale teller; a world conjurer; a narrative alchemist. Letters to Our Robot Son is as playful as it is prescient, and an intergalactic love letter to found families.” - Beejay Silcox
“Cadance Bell has pulled off an extraordinary feat in Letters to our Robot Son: a terrifying, funny, profound and ultimately hopeful story of what makes us human - and why we must question that. A rollicking adventure with a heart-busting character at its core that tousles with some of the biggest and most important questions of our time.” - Kate Mildenhall

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. On the surface, it seems like a straightforward task—thwart an impending horde of menacing monsters, and voilà, mission accomplished. But alas, the universe revels in twisting fate. The planet he's been assigned to, unlike any other, teems with Qi-cultivating martial artists who aren’t keen on a helping hand ...

Cute sweet story
Was an enjoyable experience. Wasn’t sure I’d like it at first so was pleasantly surprised.

Engaging and heart warming
This book teaches us that no matter how much evil exists in the world and how hopeless things may seem, there will always be more good, and there will always be hope if we’re willing to let go of the desire and illusions of control and just be kind to those we can reach. I loved it. The narrator also did a wonderful job with what I think would have been so difficult for just anyone to portray.

Unexpectedly deep and touching
I didn't know what to expect from this story or author but am so glad I listened. The story goes along cheerfully introducing us to a futuristic world until a sharp turn in the action dramatically steps up the stakes and really hooks you in until the end. I loved it!

Robot’s POV? Nice.
Arto is charming! I liked the way this world’s history was revealed to the him and his reactions to each detail he learns.

Stupid Intro Broke the Experience
The awakening consciousness procedure was unbearable. I listened further, but portions were just too reminiscent of the absurdity of that opening.
Awakening to thought but having the capacity for complex words and sentences was STUPID. Beyond that, it was so dumb that it was STOOPID.
That, and the main character imagined kittens to be of advanced intelligence.

A hopeful apocalypse.
Great story, great narration. This is one of those stories that you listen to every chance to you can. I love the characters and appreciate the Australian vibe. A fun listen and very engaging.

I tried.
This was too all over the place. Too stupid, lacking a story. Too much randomness. Couldn’t get past Chapter 8.
