Story
Sinclair Rutherford is a young Seattle cop with a taste for the finer things. Doing menial tasks and getting hassled by superiors he doesn't respect are definitely not "finer things". Good police work and bad luck lead him to crack a case that changes quickly from a career-making break into a high-profile humiliation when footage of his pursuit of the suspect - wildly inappropriate murder weapon in hand - becomes an Internet sensation.

Story
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Story
Jon Moore wanted only to relax on the pristine planet of Macken - but Macken was the secret battleground of two megacorporations, both determined to control the local jump gate and the riches of an undeveloped world. Moore was too valuable a tool not to be used, whether or not he was willing. What the corporations didn't realize was that Moore had a mind of his own and a conscience that wouldn't let him quit until he'd righted their wrong. And Moore had Lobo - or just possibly, Lobo had Jon Moore, because this Assault Vehicle had a mind of its own,

Geoff and his friends live in Phocaea, a distant asteroid colony on the Solar System's frontier. They're your basic high-spirited young adults, enjoying such pastimes as hacking matter compilers to produce dancing skeletons that prance through the low-gee communal areas, using their rocket-bikes to salvage methane ice shrapnel that flies away when the colony brings in a big (and vital) rock of the stuff, and figuring out how to avoid the ubiquitous surveillance motes.

They tried to destroy our planets. Our way of life. They tried to send us into extinction. But we, the Coalition, fought them and won. That was a decade ago. They’re known as the Host: a cabal of aliens seeking to dominate our sector of space. And they’re back - with help from a powerful new enemy. We’re outnumbered and unprepared. But there is hope. An ancient race of long-dead but technologically advanced aliens called the Navigators have a ship called the Blackstar that could potentially turn the tide. That is if I, Kai Locke, a humble ship racer, can find it and learn how to harness its power in time.

Might be good for the target listener.
Disclaimer: I only listened to 55% of the book. At this point, I'm calling it.
Grand Theft Astro by Scott Meyer receives three stars from me. It should also be noted--I'm not the target audience, so I feel my opinion carries less weight. Maybe those in the target or professionals with the target audience would be better.
The reader was Elizabeth Evans, and I found her reading to be solid. The tone that she had for the main character was annoying and conceited. I felt this fit the character perfectly. I
What I liked: there is adventure, there is mystery. These are all fine. However,
What I didn't like: Basically, the plot moves over several years but what seems like days to the main character. She's put in status. She's awakened when a job needs doing, which to her seems like the next day. She does the job, but doesn't work on as much her own issue, her own problem that has lead to the situation of being put in status. I feel that this is a flow in the narrative. Maybe, as the book progresses, this will happen, but at 55% of the book this should have already started.
The jobs she does all seem insurmountable, but she does them with ease. Maybe this is due to the target reader, but for me, I would have like to have had more difficulty in these tasks.
For me, this is like a bit of a TV show, where each Job is a new episode of the show, and the real problem is sort of ignored or barely mention. I felt that there was no character development either (which is kind of understandable in a real sense because each job is the next day to her, so how could she develop or change.) I'd like her to open up more, find someone to keep in her confidence, seek help to resolve her issues.
Recommended: if you are an adult who reads juvinile lit, and reads it from the perspective of an adult, this might not be for you. And maybe, we adults who try to read this way shouldn't read these books. I do try to read thinking of the target audience, but maybe I need to work not this more.
If you are an adult who reads from the perspective of the young folks---this might be a good read for you.
For the target audience, yeah, I think it might be good.

Not the usual level of excellence
I am a huge fan of the author’s other works. They are fun, compelling, and have quirky characters that are flawed in interesting ways. I had hoped for the same here. This book missed the mark.
The writing is fine. The story is fairly disjointed and both challenging to get invested in as well as having very little payoff for many sections of the content. The pacing was very slow to start and choppy afterwards. One might say that was the point, but I disagree and point to the pacing within the vignettes.
That’s my biggest complaint. This novel is a series of vignettes and would have worked better as a compilation of short stories.
If this is your first book by Mr. Meyer, Please read his other works. They are wonderful and fun.
