Story
In the sun-scorched future of 2442, survival takes the form of a game—Krieg Chess. More than a simple board game, it's a high-tech fusion of strategy and combat, demanding intellect and brute force in equal measure. Players wield advanced technologies and unearth latent abilities, transforming from pawns to knights, rooks to kings in a brutal ballet of power and progression. Against this backdrop emerge two extraordinary players: Charoen and his sister, Jessie, refugees from a camp outside Oslo, lifted from obscurity by the enigmatic billionaire Virgil.

Extreme sub-zero temperatures suffocate the surface. Frozen structures of bygone eras span across massive ice-wastes. And the survivors closely guard any technology rediscovered within them. The only escape from the deadly climate is beneath the surface, but that doesn't mean it's safe... Monstrous machines lurk in the depths. Unhinged demigods war against them, dying over and over, treating it all like a game. The depths themselves shift over time, more contraption than rock.

Publisher's summary
As the dust settles in the wake of their meteoric rise, Charoen and Jessie stand at the threshold of Krieg Chess' Minor League. Their raw talents, honed by relentless training, face a grueling ordeal against towering rivals, escalating stakes, and the intoxicating allure of fame and glory.
Virgil, their enigmatic benefactor, continues his cryptic guidance, drawing them deeper into the high-stakes world of professional Krieg Chess. Yet, every triumph illuminates a disturbing reality—they are pawns in a grander, more malevolent game.
Survival hinges not merely on victory, but on overwhelming dominance that leaves no room for contestation. But can the siblings deliver impossible wins while assailed by corrupt forces both on the battlefield and off? For if they wish to etch their names into the annals of legend, they must be willing to risk the ultimate sacrifice.

Fantastic!
Book 2 was everything I could have hoped for. Cannot wait to see what happens next with our friends. This book was a crazy, exciting, bumpy, and occasionally heartbreaking ride. I absolutely did not see the end coming. Now I’ll be impatiently awaiting book 3 bc I NEED to know what happens.
