Publisher's summary

By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, Walking with Ghosts is a delightful portrait of the people and landscapes that ultimately shape our destinies. A Landmark production, it came to Broadway direct from highly acclaimed runs in London’s West End; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Dublin, Ireland.

As a young boy growing up on the outskirts of Dublin, the stage and screen legend sought refuge in a world of imagination among the fields and hills near his home, at the edge of a rapidly encroaching city. Moving between sensual recollection of childhood in a now almost vanished Ireland and commentary on stardom, the actor-writer returned to Broadway and Audible to reflect on a life’s journey.

Adapted from his best-selling memoir of the same name and directed by Emmy Award® winner Lonny Price (Sunset Boulevard, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill), Walking with Ghosts is written and performed by the “spellbinding” (The Times) Gabriel Byrne (Hereditary, HBO’s In Treatment).

A quick tale of a fine actor's life

Byrne writes/reads/talks about his life in this short narrative. A bit too interesting to fall asleep to despite how melodious his voice is. Wonderful brief look at some of the things that made Byrne who he is.

I felt so much

I loved this so so much, I listened because I adore Gabriel, I thought why not.. I have never felt so many emotions reading something, I was right there with him on the journey. My father was from Dublin, I was raised in England, so much of it resonated with me. Gabriel’s ability to paint a landscape, sharing the depths of his agony and ecstasy, amazing.
I will be reading anything I can find that he has written.

Such warm and lovely stories!
I, too, could not drift off listening to his melodic voice as the stories were so enchanting, I needed to be present to hear each and everyone. Well done…thanks ever so… Cheers!!

Listening to Gabriel feels like balm for my soul.

I love Ireland. I’ve been there several times. It’s an enchanting place. All the family on my mother’s side - the Walshes and Murphys - were born there, and not many of them emigrated to the United States from there. Sadly, I only knew one grandmother, who died when I was a teenager. I wish I could talk to her now. There are so many things I’d love to to ask her. Something about listening to Gabriel talk about his early life touches me profoundly and I could listen to his beautiful lilting accent forever.

Modern version of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

This felt so reminiscent of Jame’s Joyce’s first novel. Wonderfully engaging! Beautifully written, produced, and performed!
