Why do our daily disciplines matter?

As believers, we know that being disciplined day to day matters, but why? If we can get to an answer of why, we might be able to put more effort into our disciplines. We look at the life of Abraham and consider how a lack of discipline in his daily matters became not only an issue he faced multiple times, but that his son faced as well.
