Publisher's summary

Tal has found a doorway to an ancient pocket dimension in the woods, but the discovery has cost him dearly.

Spellbook is lost somewhere inside, held by an unknown magical force. Should his bond to the book fade, Tal fears he will lose all awareness of the time loop he’s trapped in and any chance of escaping it. He must get Spellbook back before this happens, but the enchantments protecting the pocket dimension are formidable.

Another threat is the presence Tal has detected hidden amid the oblivious citizenry of Crossroads—someone else is aware of the loop. A foe who retains their memories is a serious problem, but Tal has no idea who it could be. He’s determined to draw the mysterious individual out of the shadows before they find him first.

Tal can’t afford to let his magical and combat training fall by the wayside either. After all, new dangers are revealing themselves every reset—the behavior of the town’s rats are particularly disturbing. So a new instructor is called for, however brutal their methods may be....

amazing story from a great new author. 10/10

love this story it was different enough and fresh enough from so many other books that it really stood out. I liked his first book and this one is better.

A very good continuation, better than the first book

I found the dynamics between Dagmar and Tal quite fun and I enjoyed this book more than the previous one.

I didn’t really like the info dumps and diary narratives from side characters all that much but they do explain aspects that will come up later, most of them anyway. I’d still have liked this to be handled a little bit differently. Not everyone’s diary is an engaging read.

Again, recommend .95 speed for Travis, although his narration is spot on as always.

Very enjoyable

A great time loop book! I’ve read several simulation books and this is one of my favorites. It’s well written and the characters are developed. I am looking forward to the next book.

I love this series!

This is a fantastic new take on the time loop and forbidden magics genres. I loved the first book, and this one is even better. We get to know much more about the world, magic, and most everything about the time loop itself! I definitely enjoy the diary style of storytelling, and I love seeing how the MC develops throughout the long day, plus it has some of the best little time loop terms like "Next Today".

put down for 6 months, but came back and enjoyed

good story, the pacing needs work, but time loop stories are very hard to get right. the addition of the fiery menace was welcome and moved forward the story. I am interested in book 3.

Great follow up to a great story

I searched for a long time to find a good time loop story. Most of them become to repetitive or lost track of details to often. Dear Spellbook finally solved those issues. Everytime I was just starting to think things would get reptative it would jump to scene from before the time loop started. giving us details of what led to the characters being here in the first place. This sequel followed a similar but distinct path of jumping to the recollections of people who lived through the time loop after it ends. This is a great way to give us context of events that the characters in the story weren't a part of without resorting to exposition. I only have one complaint... so ending them like this!

Amazing Once More

A great continuation of the first book. As we have caught up to the present in terms of flashbacks, the interludes are a bit different but just as enjoyable. I quite liked both the expanded worldbuilding, and the reveal on how the time loop system works.

See my review of the first book for a more in depth discussion of the merits and faults. It's the top one last I checked.

A masterful sequel, and I truly recommend.
