Until, by chance, they discover their mother isn’t sick—she’s cursed. Cursed by someone on the very magic council their family used to rule. Someone who will come for them next.

Publisher's summary
In Where Sleeping Girls Lie—a YA contemporary mystery by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé, the New York Times-bestselling author of Ace of Spades—a girl new to boarding school discovers dark secrets and coverups after her roommate disappears.
It’s like I keep stumbling into a dark room, searching for the switch to make things bright again...
Sade Hussein is starting her third year of high school, this time at the prestigious Alfred Nobel Academy boarding school after being home-schooled all her life. Misfortune has been a constant companion all her life, but even Sade doesn’t expect her new roommate, Elizabeth, to disappear after Sade’s first night. Or for people to think she had something to do with it.
With rumors swirling around her, Sade catches the attention of the girls collectively known as the ‘Unholy Trinity’ and they bring her into their fold. Between learning more about them—especially Persephone, who Sade is inexplicably drawn to—and playing catchup in class, Sade already has so much on her plate. But when it seems people don't care enough about what happened to Elizabeth to really investigate, it's up to she and Elizabeth's best friend to solve it.
And then a student is found dead.
As they keep trying to figure out what’s going on, Sade realizes there’s more to Alfred Nobel Academy and its students than she thought. Secrets lurk around every corner and beneath every surface…secrets that rival even her own.

It's 1990 in London and Tom Hargreaves has it all: a burgeoning career as a reporter, fierce ambition and a brisk disregard for the "peasants"—ordinary people, his readers, easy tabloid fodder. His star seems set to rise when he stumbles across a sensational scoop: a dead child on a London estate, grieving parents beloved across the neighborhood, and the finger of suspicion pointing at one reclusive family of Irish immigrants and “bad apples”: the Greens. At their heart sits Carmel: beautiful, otherworldly, broken, and once destined for a future beyond her circumstances.

Story
Grief Is for People is a deeply moving and surprisingly suspenseful portrait of friendship, and a book about loss packed with verve for life. Sloane Crosley is one of our most renowned observers of contemporary behavior, and now the pathos that has been ever present in her trademark wit is on full display. After the pain and confusion of losing her closest friend to suicide, Crosley looks for answers in friends, philosophy, and art, hoping for a framework more useful than the unavoidable stages of grief.

I enjoyed the story, very realistic thoughts about assault and trauma.
If you have dealt with sexual assault it is hard to read. I enjoyed the way the writer told the story

Woah secrets will come out regardless…especially where sleeping girls lie
Woah this book had me in a chokehold for sure; besides it being a thriller I enjoyed how the author constructed characters that all had something to hide. All the secrets the characters held made me engulfed in the story from the very first page. This is an enthralling mystery that peels back the depths of how far one will go for love and survival. 11/10

Good Story
Great story and good read for teens/ young adults looking to find their place in the world. The theme of “boys club” and “sexual assault” can be triggering for some, but the author does a great job of facing adversity through the main character. Strong fearless female characters ❤️

Everything in this book is so brilliantly crafted, the cover, the narrator, the story and the title. Nothing is amiss.

Where Sleeping Girls Lie" – A Wild Ride of Mystery and Twists
I just finished "Where Sleeping Girls Lie," and wow, what a ride! This book hooked me right from the start, and I found myself completely absorbed in its world of mystery and suspense. It's the kind of book that keeps you guessing, and I admit, I got everything wrong every time I tried to figure out what was coming next.
It actually took me about 11 hours into reading before I even started guessing. That’s how captivating the plot and characters were. The author does a fantastic job of pacing the story, balancing slower, tension-building scenes with sudden twists that keep you on the edge of your seat.
The way the author layers mystery upon mystery while slowly revealing bits of information is seriously impressive. You get drawn into the characters’ secrets and their complex lives as the story unfolds. It’s a deep dive into a world filled with shadows and hidden truths, and it’s thrilling from start to finish.
"Where Sleeping Girls Lie" is perfect for anyone who loves a good plot twist and enjoys staying on their toes while reading. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this author. If you’re into psychological thrillers, this book should be next on your list!
