Publisher's summary

In We Learn Nothing, satirical cartoonist Tim Kreider turns his funny, brutally honest eye to the dark truths of the human condition, asking big questions about human-sized problems: What if you survive a brush with death and it doesn't change you? Why do we fall in love with people we don't even like? How do you react when someone you've known for years unexpectedly changes genders?

With a perfect combination of humor and pathos, these essays leave us with newfound wisdom and a unique prism through which to examine our own chaotic journeys through life. These are the conversations you have only with best friends or total strangers, late at night over drinks, near closing time.

Fantastic set of essays and stories

Loved this book! It's a wonderful set of vignettes and viewpoints--some that hit with astonishing clarity. Can't say I agree with all the conclusions (his cynicism betrays his uniquely 'lived' life) but I love his logic and appreciate the reminder that another life's perspective brings into my own. Krieders narration does come off as a bit monotone but that lends to the vibe and when he does add emotion it emphasizes the intimacy of the book. There are a few lines in particular I couldn't have seen working in print alone. Highly recommended!

Honest and engaging.

This book was the cause of many introspective moments. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Made me feel a little better about my own meandering life. Thank you Tim, for having and sharing your shitty yet wonderful life. Next round of drinks is on me.

Very entertaining / witty

The title was correct, I learned nothing. But that’s not the point of the book, it’s full of stories that sometimes have no point but there’s something about all of them that are authentic.

I’ve listened to the book a few times throughout the years even though I have a bunch of books I’ve q’ed up but have never listened too. This one keeps pulling me back.

Articulate on the human condition

This was an amazing book. It eloquently describes specific aspects of the human condition through short life stories in a witty, humorous yet existential way.

Great read/listen - even as a republican! :-)

Great stories and hard truths. Political in places and even though I wouldn't agree with some of Tim's views I still loved it. The very fact that we have different views and I'd still highly recommend it should go a long way in conveying just how good the story is!

My only non political whine is that it ended too soon!

Thanks Tim - publish more!!!

Funny solid book

It's a very well-written book with a lot of subjective truths from the author and he shares these comments on society peppered within his personal stories.

I don't know the author, but it feels authentic and makes me both laugh and cry. It's a great book!

My one wish for the author is although he's an atheist, I hope that he discovers unconditional love. He touches on his view of familial love near the end of the book, but I feel like if he could incorporate the concept of unconditional love, it would take his relationships to the next level. Again, fantastic book. I loved it and I wish the author nothing but the best in his future!

Fantastic book

Enjoyed the narration along with the stories that were sometimes wild but very relatable. Would recommend this to anyone doing a little reflection on their own life
