Publisher's summary

When 25-year-old Sophie Nouveau inherits her grandmother's voodoo shop, she knows nothing about voodoo. Or her family's history of Mind Changers, who have the power to change evil people good. To complicate matters, someone doesn't want Sophie in New Orleans and sends a series of death threats to scare her away from her new enchanted life. Tipped off by her grandmother's ghost, Sophie realizes her mind-changing spell's been missing one magic ingredient: true love. If Sophie cannot experience transformative love, she cannot make her spell work, and she will be powerless to fight back when confronted by the one who wants her dead.

Wonderful story with depth and darkness

This book does a wonderful job of telling a rich and layered story, establishing a world, and introducing a diverse group of characters. Sometimes when a book tries to take on that much, it gets too caught up in the minutiae to really do a good job of it - this book is definitely the exception. You get a full grasp on everything, while a very intense story unfolds. Looking forward to more in this series, and definitely more from this author!

Spellbinding!

I was provided this review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I was absolutely spellbound from the very start! This book has so many things that draw you in. Mystery and thrills, suspense and romance. The characters are so well written, you are immediately drawn in to their world.

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook! I really hated to pause it to do anything. I look forward to continuing on the journey!

Enjoyable

I liked the characters and the overall story was interesting. The only think I disliked was the guy I was rooting for didn’t get the girl. I hope he might get his own story soon. I was given a free copy for an honest review.

Joining the Family Business

I absolutely loved this mesmerizing story about a young woman who goes to New Orleans to attend her grandmother's funeral and investigate her inheritance and ends up discovering a family, a career and a new love. Her new world offers loads of benefit and a sense of belonging but it's not without it's dangers.
I love the New Orleans mystique and the voodoo culture and the strong female characters that populate the book. Sophie is both strong and vulnerable, with a streak of determination that I found completely lovable. Surrounded by Poppy, Taj and the enigmatic Jacques, they make for a colourful and entertaining story which remains hopeful and positive in spite of it's dark themes.
If you love stories about New Orleans and the occult like I do, you'll love this one.

Captivating

This book was really well written and the narration was perfect. It was so beautifully written it was easy to see it unfold in your mind, and the narration totally helped! This is a great book to help pass the time, but don't expect to multitask with this, as it will have your full attention! lol

Great Narrator and Story

I'll be honest that this is the 3rd version of the book that I own. I own a paperback, which I have lent to my friends, and they've now gotten into the series. I bought it as an ebook, then, so I would have my own copy to refer to when book two came out, and then I saw that I could purchase the audio book for a great price since I owned the ebook. So I did because I wanted to review the story before book 4 comes out this spring. (I wish that book 2 and 3 were also audio books with the same narrator.) So I'm obviously a fan of this story and the world.

But the narrator was amazing! She did different voices so well--from Sophie, the main character, to her sidekick Poppy. From the two love interests--Jacque and Taj, and even Father Malachi had a different accent. I just think that this is so well done, and the characters really came to life as well as the city of New Orleans in the audio version.

Anyone who listens to this will get into this series, which in my opinion, is very well-written, smart, and clever with a touch of romance. Isn't that what we all need?
