Publisher's summary

As Vita's humanity slowly drips away, monsters fallen from an island above spread throughout her home.

While she fights fellow horrors outside the city's walls, her family suffers threats from within them. Yet surely there's no problem power can't solve...and if there's one thing eating souls is good for, it's power.

Experience the adventure of this fantasy novel by Natalie "Thundamoo" Maher, uncovering the secrets of a massive world of floating islands and the dangerous entity known as the Mistwatcher that rests beneath them. Vigor Mortis 2 pairs adorable charm with deadly seriousness, an incongruous mix that pushes triumphantly forward despite the horror bearing down on all sides.

New favorite author

the author and narrator combo are perfect as my attention was held and I find myself caring about the characters in the story.

Irritating but good.

well written, but I hate it when the author changes perspective. it's like getting whiplash. i wound up skipping something like 10 chapters, just because they were from Lark's POV, and I couldn't give a darn about her perspective. I am just going to assume MC is dead and go about my life. No interest in book 3.

Depressing, horrific, socipathic and endearing

First I like to state, I was a huge fan of the first book and for the most part was not dissapointed with one exception being a new monster character they introduced. The first two chapter are essentially torture porn that get a bit monotonous. I can stomach torture, but not a generic monster especially when you have a more interesting monster story in Vita and Penelope. Granted the new monster offer an interesting comparison between Vita and a great quite scene together, but also had an hour long chapter that made me feel like my time was wasted.

That aside, lots of powerful depressing scene, insight into the characters, their interaction and dynamic, especially Penelope and Vita relationshipm I personally adore Penta and Vita relationship in the first book and contrast and comparison to their humanity. This book manage to make an even more interesting and dynamic relationship between Vita and Penelope that is both sweet and horrific. Add to the world building that does not feel like exposition but instead add to further the enjoyment of the story.

If they would have cut short some of Lark story (especially that one hour chapter that had no zinger at the end), I would say it improve on the first book, but unfortunately they did not and the longer story did not help the story imo. But it is still horrifically and depressingly entertaining with a bit of humor once in a while and if you love the first, you love the second.

Dark, but...

I was enjoying the book, but near the end it was all pointless. MC never is powerful enough, never good enough, just never enough. I am going to check the next chapter on RR and if it isn't her almost immediately improving her situation, I won't be continuing this series.

morals between evil and good

I love how this book makes you think the difference between what is good and what is evil what is Justice what is right can something evil do good does what people see as evil have to be evil can a monster be a true saint or does one act of evil ruin that forever

Masterpiece

There was so much going on in this book I couldn't put it down. Love the darkness of this book.
