Publisher's summary

Due to the sensitive nature of my profession, I am known simply as Mr. J. I have the unique ability to analyze people, places, and things in such a way as to be able to determine what would, should, can, could come next. In a way, I can predict the future. I first developed this ability while watching chess games in the park when I was 12 years old and soon was able to predict the moves and the winners of several games at the same time. Before graduating from high school, I was being utilized as an “unknown” source helping to solve cases for the local police.

When I eventually became a federal agent, I quickly advanced to one of the highest levels - Chief Strategist, Level IV - and was charting and predicting moves and counter moves against the various organized crime operations while also protecting the United States against cyberattacks. I’d like to share with you a carefully redacted inside view of my career in counterintelligence, and later, as a CIA handler. Hold on to your seat; this will be a wild ride!

Interesing take on espionage!

It reads like a memoire of an analyst. There is a story of career progression, a love dtory, some vague references to cataclysmic events, and some computer hacking stories ( even if they are a bit implausible).

It lives up to what it says on the tin. But it is not a spy novel. No actual action or mystery here.

The narrator was smooth, well paced and enjoyable.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for a review.

interesting

This might be above my paygrade, but I found it interesting and informative if half if it is true. All the cloak and dagger and intrigue are entertaining. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.

yawn

I really had a hard time following this book. I love true stories and spy/crime type books. The narrator had a soft, solemn, sleepy voice, which would go better with a more mystical type book. The story itself, lacks depth and character development. There were so many times the statement "you get the picture" was made when, no, I didn't get the picture.
The author stated "Working out at the gym . . .Cell phone on vibrate placed somewhere on my anatomy where I could certainly tell when the call came my way. It had vibrated a few embarrassing times - you don't need to know the rest." Either tell us or don't please. He ended most of his stories this way.
I would not recommend this book. I had my husband listen to it with me, thinking perhaps I'm missing something. He echoed my sentiment that the book is uninteresting, especially since it's about an FBI agent.
