Publisher's summary

The eighth gripping adventure in David Gilman's critically acclaimed Master of War series set in fourteenth-century Europe.

Bordeaux, 1367. Having angered the bloodthirsty Don Pedro, King of Castile, Sir Thomas Blackstone is thoroughly sick of his mission for the Prince of Wales, but must remain true to his oath.

But this is the Hundred Years' War, and tensions are rising once more. With the Prince of Wales deeply unpopular in his Aquitainian lands, Blackstone, King Edward's Master of War, must return to French soil to help stem the tide of support for the King of France.

Meanwhile, Henry, Blackstone's son, faces an incognito ride across France with his own motley band of outlaws and mercenaries. But the French are aware of the younger Blackstone's journey, and see a perfect way to target the Master of War.

Great to see so many characters together

I found Henry’s story especially entertaining. Glad to see black prince finally accept Thomas and also see Henry and Thomas together

Great stories and intrigue.

Wish there were “Master at War” books. This has been a very good series to read.

Long Live Thomas Blackstone

I’ve waited a very long time for this book to be released! This is definitely one of the best series of all time and is my personal favorite! David Gilman has done a masterful job in this amazing series. Guess my only complaint is that it was shorter than the other books, I finished this book in a day and a half. Ready for book 9 already!!

Defiant Unto Death

Thomas Blackstone is a great star and Gilbert is the best co-star. This series has been a true blessing. David Gilman's creative genius at work. Gildart Jackson started it all and Colin Mace has kept the flame going. It is rare that the story keeps it's edge when the narrator changes, and this is a rarity indeed. Thanks for such a great story. Waiting for #9.

following the saga of Thomas blackthorne

This volume incorporates Blackthorne's son. Henry, who we have watched grow up through the novels. Looking forward to future publications.

The change in the reader.

It was another good story by this author. Unfortunately, the reader changed, and so the characters were not portrayed as well, especially Sir Gilbert Killbare who sadly was emasculated and made more of a dandy than a fighting man.

Love this series, but…

I love this series and have listened to them all. The voices have given the characters personality that the listener can count on. The familiarity leads to a deeper appreciation for the story. Nothing against the new narrator; however, some background research on the characters and their voices would’ve gone so far. Thomas Blackstone is different in this novel, yet others are fairly similar. The character that I found the hardest to follow was Sir Gilbert Killbere who went from gravely and hard nosed to a more aristocratic snob. This was a poor change to a phenomenal series. Clearly, this story of Sir Thomas Blackstone is far from over, I hope corrections are made to maintain the characters we have e come to enjoy throughout this epic adventure tale.

I love this series

This is my favorite series of books I have ever come across. So lucky to have had the fortune to have had this set recommended to me.
