Publisher's summary

Blending memoir and blistering social observations, the author of The F*ck It Diet looks back at her desperate attempts to heal her hunger, anxiety, and imperfections through extreme diets, culty self-help methods, and melodramatic bargains with the universe.

Offering a frank and funny critique of the cultural forces that are driving us mad, Caroline Dooner examines how treating ourselves like never ending self-improvement projects is a recipe for burnout. We have become unknowingly complicit in perpetuating our own exhaustion because we are treating ourselves like machines. But even phones need to f*cking recharge.

Caroline takes a good hard look at the dark side of self-help, and explains how she eventually used a radical period of rest to push back against cultural expectations and reclaim some peace.

Tired As F*ck empowers us to say no to the things that exhaust us. It inspires us to carve out time to slow down, feel okay about doing less, and honor our humanity.

This is not a self-help book, it’s a cautionary tale. It’s an honest look at the dogma of wellness and spiritual self-improvement culture and revels in the healing power of rest and letting shit go.

What they don’t teach you in school

Amazing book! Definitely would recommend this to anyone struggling with exhaustion and burn out. After struggling with my own bout of burn out and exhaustion, Caroline does an amazing job explaining why we feel the way we feel by using her own experiences as examples. This book is non-culty and allows you to be self aware of you and what you’re feeling.

The Light at the End of the Tunnel

What I love about Caroline is that she shares her authentic self, and in doing so, allows us all to find ways to heal our relationship with food and our souls. If you’re tired of the rat race and searching for perfection, listen to her book. She’ll make you laugh, surprise you with her candor, and remind you that you’re not alone. If you’re tired as f*ck, listen to her book, and you’ll begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t as far as you think.

Not really about rest

This book was a story of the author's life and troubles. It discusses in some places why rest is good, but not much more. Might be especially relevant if someone is recovering from an eating disorder like she is.

Confirmation

I have been feeling burned out and in a place where I have been questioning my life in this moment and my life's future. I work a regular 40-50 a week job, am a partime-ish real estate agent and a mom to 3 sons who no longer have a Dad around. and I hate the rotation of that self description. My jobs take priority over time with my sons. and I hate that. I don't enjoy the competition of sales in real estate and I hate that it eats up all of my "free time". My full time job is the only thing that I don't mind but I do don't like that I'm not better at it. this audio book has helped me to put real thought to those things and had given me real perspective. something to think about. I can't tell you or the author how much I appreciate this fact. For me, who never has time even think much less rest, I'm Fucking Exhausted and need to restratigize my life. this isn't sustainable. this isn't living. this is only working

A MUST read.

I am a 74 year old woman who has had more therapy and self-help work than might even be quantifiable. And yet I learned and benefited so very much from Caroline's book Tired As Fuck. Not only is her voice a perfect blend of humor and knowledge but her words pierce the soul with their truth. The mixture of memoir and searing cultural observations make the book even more impactful. It is an absorbing, positive and energetic treatise on a subject that is epidemic in our society. I read it in two days. Her journey, for someone, by my standards, so young, is inspiring and has changed my entire perspective about how I want to live, truly live, the rest of my life.

A Must Read for Any One Tired As F*ck

From the first chapter, this book pulled me in deep. Much like with the Fuck It Diet, Caroline spoke in a way that hit home and had me taking an introspective look at myself and my life.

Not all concepts she covered are brand new (I've read about them in other books) but the honest and down to earth way she related them to her own experiences helped put it all in perspective.

reading my mind

it's amazing how with every chapter i screamed "exactly" or "I've been saying the same thing!!" louder and louder.
To hear the story of your own life narrated by someone else - it's a surreal experience.
