Publisher's summary

The Unites States and China vie for supremacy in the international marketplace as China seeks to become the global leader. A pandemic sweeping across the world send the markets spiraling into chaos, increasing the tension between the two superpowers. Armed conflict needs only a spark. Too soon!

I listened to the whole book, but misses having a central character to follow along with. and since we're still post pandemic I felt it was a little too soon for the book to delve into it (although I did enjoy those insights as to how the pandemic began). I was going to try the next book in the series, but from reading reviews it sounds much the same as this one with no main character, news reports adjusted on both sides, and general military conflict...

To reader: learn the terms used in the book.

Story is engaging and pretty good. The reader does a reasonable job except he doesn't realize that LCDR should be read lieutenant commander and LTJG should be lieutenant JG (or junior grade) so he literally read "LCDR".

Not that big a deal but it just grates each time.

Good start

The story definitely made me feel like I wanted more as it progressed in the narrative that the author shared

The Future Conflict “what if” scenario.

Great take on potential war with Chinese. Not too much tech overload and decent character development. Great listen and can’t wait for book 2 to come out. Narration was very good.

Great story

Great storyline, fast paced. Plausible plot in today’s world. Looking forward to the next book.
Highly recommended.

Another great work John O’Brien

Once again John O’Brien has written a wonderful and riveting story. This one is of a different genre than I have read from him before.
His combination of technical detail and storyline work well together to make a compelling first book of what I hope will be a series.

Good idea, questionable execution

I love the premise but too many news updates. Narration was very monotone but not bad.

On the edge of seat action

One of the best action novels read to date. A story that resembles real world events in detail and with great narrative. Even more, read expertly. Recommended for true lovers of geopolitical stories that enjoy a good story.
