Story
Lucinda Williams’s rise to fame was anything but easy. Raised in a working-class family in the Deep South, she moved from town to town each time her father—a poet, a textbook salesman, a professor, a lover of parties—got a new job, totaling twelve different places by the time she was eighteen. Her mother suffered from severe mental illness and was in and out of hospitals. And when Williams was about a year old, she had to have an emergency tracheotomy—an inauspicious start for a singing career. But she was also born a fighter, and she would develop a voice that has captivated millions.

“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

Publisher's summary
The insecure son of a genius physicist, Everett was left to run wild with his sister while his father was off in some parallel universe of his own invention. A string of tragedies would claim his family members, one by one, yet somehow Everett managed to not only survive, but to make a life. Striking out on a journey to find himself, he channeled his experiences into critically acclaimed music with the Eels.
Told with surprising candor, Things the Grandchildren Should Know is an inspiring and remarkable story full of hope, humor, and wry wisdom.

Story
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Wow E!
This was an absolute binge fest of an Audible book. ME is as an amazing of a story teller as he is a song writer, who would have ever know that they are one in the same! Thank you for this masterpiece of a listen and for never giving into the man because frankly sir that is you! Everyone needs to read this when in doubt of strength and self worth. This is one of the best life stories I have ever heard. The son of a genius sure did carve out a special place in this universe!!

Sad, funny and inspiring...
Would you listen to Things the Grandchildren Should Know again? Why?
I have already listened to it twice.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Things the Grandchildren Should Know?
Everett's amazing personality and sense of humor shine through the tragic and defining stories of his life giving new insight into the man and his music. Also, beautifully read by The Chet.
Have you listened to any of The Chet’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to The Chet perform live with the Eels for years. As for audio books, I do not believe he has done any others but with his voice and annunciation, I would definitely love to hear more.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This book was so good, I woke up at 5 am just to finish it before going to work.
Any additional comments?
I strongly recommend this book.

Different point of view
I found this book interesting. You get to see someone’s life from a different point of view. I read it after reading about his dad and seeing the bbc short documentary on his life (available on YouTube). It reminds me to not judge and to send good vibes because you never know what someone else is going through.

I really truly feel inspired by it. As an Eels fan for so long, this book sheds a radiant light over E's complex life and intricate music. The honest tone of the book, its humor, witts, lessons learnt and wising up as he grows older is really astonishing to me. Highly recommended and not only to music fans. A great achivement and an ongoing comfort for me while reading or listening.
