Publisher's summary

Jason is a cynical rich playboy. He doesn’t take life seriously. He doesn’t believe in settling down.

Eileen’s 27th birthday is almost here. But as always, she’s an afterthought in her parents' minds. Her family is too busy planning a shotgun wedding for her older sister to pay attention to her. And now, she has to help.

It’s just another year where she’s overlooked. But the best man is smoking hot. He actually notices her and makes her feel special.

Jason doesn’t believe in commitment, but Eileen intrigues him. She’s not the kind of girl he usually hooks up with. She doesn’t even fall for his charm.

He’s made it his mission to convince her that he’s not the shallow man she thinks he is. But can Jason give up his playboy lifestyle to become the man Eileen needs?

Enjoyable

I liked the dynamic between Jason and Eileen. They are put in a weird situation having to plan a quicky wedding for Eileen’s ungrateful sister, but while doing so they form a strong bond which grows into more.

Slump cure

This was a great love story. I truly enjoyed how it wasn’t traditional as most are. There was no breaking up for a random reason and then realizing their mistake. Highly recommend!

A great escape

Then He Happened was a bit more over the top than I expected from Claudia Burgoa with Eileen's family and a couple way too selfish to be getting married, let alone becoming parents. Somehow, though, it worked for Jason and Eileen's story, suspension of disbelief and all. As irritated as I got with Eileen's family and as many times as I fumed at her (yes, I talk to characters! Doesn't everybody?), that's how much I loved Jason. Okay, maybe not at first. He is a playboy, and not a very nice one, but once he and Eileen started spending time together, I started warming up to him. These two have a kind of forced proximity romance as they put their heads together to plan a wedding. The more I warmed up to Jason, the more I thought about the title of this one. It's pretty well perfect for this romance, and to be honest, I'd be okay with Jason happening to me! This couple is so well suited, and the chemistry builds as they get closer.
I can't forget the wonderful dual narration by Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder. Claudia Burgoa always gives me characters that practically leap off the page, and these narrators take it that extra step and give voice to them. The emotion comes through so well, and even the funny stuff is delivered with impeccable timing.
To sum it up, Then He Happened is a little different than I expected, but I enjoyed this couple's journey and it was a nice change for a bit of escapism.

Can't wait for more Spearman family antics!

Jason and Eileen are a match made in heaven in this second Spearman Family installment!

Jason and Eileen are both used to having to solve all of their respective families' problems, so when Eileen's sister and Jason's cousin need to pull off a wedding lickety split, it's no surprise that they are the ones that have to pull it off. But what is a surprise is how the two of them instantly click, and they for a powerful duo that can pull off the seemingly impossible.

I was so entranced by how Jason just instantly recognized the goodness in Eileen, and how she needed a champion not to fix things for her, but to stand by her side as she fixed things for herself. Jason was exactly what you would want a support to be. And they were amazing together.

The narration by Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder, was simply perfection. They are both two powerhouse narrators in the romance genre, and for good reason. They definitely give their all to their performances, and they draw the listener in and provide hours of enjoyment.

Highly recommend, and looking forward to more Spearman family antics!

Great story and narration

Then He Happened was well written and had me engaged from the first chapter. I really loved Jason and Eileen, both separately and together, they really do make a great couple. Jason Clarke and Emma Wilder did a great job with their narration. Their voices are so easy to listen to that I found myself listening to this one in one go.

Eileen’s family are not nice, in fact if I were her I would disown them and write them off. The banter and humour between Eileen and Jason was at times hilarious and I found myself smiling often, it just made me happy and as their friendship developed all I could do was cheer them on.

Despite their families, who really are clueless, Jason and Eileen come together to arrange a successful wedding. The support that they show for one another truly was heart warming. There were times throughout the story that I really wanted to smack some sense into Eileen’s sister, her parents and Jason’s cousin. I really felt like cheering when Eileen finally stood up for herself against her selfish family. Through it all Jason offered his friendship, support and eventually love and he just ticked the boxes for me. Jason Clarke did a wonderful job with his voicing of this character, he really brought Jason to life for me.

This book is a little gem, so why not one click?

Unexpected love

Emma Wilder and Jason Clarke were fantastic narrating Then He Happened. Emma brought out Emily's strengths and insecurities while Jason's sexy voice was irresistible.

When Emily and Jason are thrown together, forced to plan a big wedding in only three weeks, both are leery of relationships. Jason was burned years ago when his bride stood him up at the altar; Emily is overwhelmed with finishing her PhD, working as a physical therapist, paying bills, and suffering the way her family treats her. His cousin and her sister are having a shotgun wedding, are both broke, but expect a spectacular wedding, with someone else doing all the work.

I loved the way Emily and Jason played off each other, their sense of humor, taste in music, and growing friendship. Even their arguments were fun, and they were just so good for each other.

Fun story and easy to listen to

This is an incredibly heart warming tale about two people who both feel that life is against them, being forced into what they feel is the most impossible and horrible situation, and finding a miracle. Jason has been crushed by what he thought was his soulmate in his past. Eileen just gets stepped on, walked all over, and forgotten by her own family. These characters are so enchanting. They are relatable and feel so very real. This book grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go.

The narration for this book was incredible. Both narrators are extremely talented and did such an amazing job bringing these characters to life.

I truly loved how perfect for each other Jason and Eileen were.

hard won HEA

So, sometimes a book I've read hits a little too close to home and makes it difficult to write the review. Forgive me for making this a personal vent against my mother's family in her honor. This is for you mom, I hope you see this in heaven amd know how much your children always loved and appreciated you and your beautiful kind spirit. ❤️ 🦋

Eileen is in a word, too wonderful for her miserable family. She always put them before her own happiness and still managed to keep a sense of humor and thrive with one best friend by her side and a creative outlet to pour out all her emotions. Even when these people treated her like dirt, she STILL went back for more emotional abuse. I found it hard to listen to at times because of this personal connection. Through no fault of her narration, this is why I didn't care for the voice Emma Wilder gave to Eileen. I'm not sure ANYONE could've lived up to my expectations of how she should've sounded because of how this book made me feel. Emma is a favorite voice actor of mine and I adore her in every other book I've listened to.

Jason is like a wounded puppy who's been waiting for the right person to come along and show him not everyone is going to treat him badly or use him to get what they want. He's floundering through life after being left at the alter years ago and has closed his heart off to love.
Jason Clarke is a top 3 favorite voice for a reason. He injects the right amount of emotion ( or lack of in this instance) to this character and also the protectiveness that Jason feels for Eileen.
Loved how organically their love grew from strangers thrust together by circumstances, to friendship and mutual respect, to love.

All in all, this is another amazing, heart felt romance with an HEA that I've come to love about Claudia Burgoa. If a book can make you feel: happy, sad, or even mad, I think it's hit the mark. This one definitely brought on strong emotions for me, personally.

Amazing!

This is a romantic comedy but it's also so much more. It's a a story of growth and learning to put yourself first and that you are more than how others treat you. Both Jason and Eileen go throughs such growth together, that it was hard to be upset at his playboy ways before they met. He learns he can have a relationship and she learns she is more than enough. It's sweet and funny, and sexy. I loved the narrators and how they brought these characters and the family to life. I had to keep listening because once I started, I couldn't stop.
