Critic reviews

"So much better than the competition that comparisons long ago ceased to be relevant: [the Aubrey/Maturin books] are uniquely excellent. (The New York Times)
Meticulously researched and heart-stoppingly vivid." (Washington Post Book World)

Reader not good

Patrick Tull is the best reader for the O’Brian series. Pigott-Smith is too nasal in his character voices.

Be aware. Abridged version.

Patrick O'Brian's books are like an old friend. I started listening to this before I realized it was an abridged version. Once I realized my mistake I returned it for the full version. I liked what I heard from this reader but I would not miss large sections of the book for anything and Patrick Tull's narration is excellent.

Do not buy abridged versions!

Really angry at Audible for selling abridged versions for same price as full books. After many years I will look for a different publisher.
