Publisher's summary

Dee Kwan’s secrets for a happy life:

  • Always remain positive, no matter the cost
  • Realize that every setback is a hidden opportunity
  • Accept compliments graciously, especially when given by mega-hot rivals
  • Never, ever question whether any of these mantras actually work

For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.)

Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and prickly estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too...and Teddy is nothing like the man she thought she knew.

Before she can cry foul, Teddy comes clean about his double life: He’s the heir to the CEO, and he needs her help to make Celeste a better place—for everyone. But that means taking down the old guard—including his father—intent on standing in their way. Now in the center of a dizzying corporate coup, Dee is forced to decide whether she’s ready to stop watching the world through rose-colored glasses and instead face the truth: about herself, about her feelings for Teddy, and about what she’s willing to do to truly make a difference.

Love all of Lily Chu’s books!

Sweet, great character building - nostalgic nods to iconic areas in Toronto and Paris. Phillips Soo is becoming my favorite narrator!

Romance and intrigue in Fashion World

I enjoyed the characters of Daiyou and Teddy, and how they started out as trivia competition friends/rivals before working at the same firm and having to hide their romantic relationship. The worlds of fashion, diversity work, and trivia were interesting to travel through. Kept my interest with various twists and turns. Lots of great character growth for Daiyou and Teddy too. Recommended!

Current and Engaging Book

Great book for the nerd, corporate girly, and romantic in me. Even though the narration is great, I do wish it had 2 actors sometimes.

One of my new fave authors

I find lily’s writing very thoughtful and enlightening. I like going through the experiences of her characters. This one helped encourage me to be more confident to speak my truth. And a little romance within it is always fun. Good job!

Can’t go wrong with Lily Chu and Phillipa Soo

What a wonderful story and so relatable. The writing style is fresh and crisp. The story is fun and the wins and losses of the characters make you relate and feel for them. The romance feels warm and honest. While the instances of discrimination seem egregious, they are realistic. And what wonderful wish fulfillment- you leave this book feeling satisfied and optimistic!

Great books!

I read (listened) all her books in about a month. They were fun, very original, and I loved all the characters. The issue of diversity is mentioned in all the books, and that helps the reader to consciously pay attention in all your interactions with all people.
I would definitely recommend all of her books to anyone who likes a little bit of romance and a little bit of drama, without becoming too serious. I can’t wait for her next book!
