Publisher's summary
Secrets have been unleashed. Worlds have fallen. A Mage-King has died. But the war rages on!

As the Martian Second Fleet moves against the remaining Republic worlds, Captain Kelly LaMonte’s covert stealth ship sweeps the worlds away from the conflict, searching for the Republic’s government-in-hiding and a chance to end the bloody conflict.
But this war began in the shadows, and the secrets hidden in those shadows threaten to turn the tide of the war once more - and bring it to the heart of the Protectorate!

Good, if a bit predictable
I liked this book in the series. It was a little predictable at the end, and the bad guys still seem to know too much, but it’s not unbelievable for a group that spent years (or decades) preparing what they did. The book also seemed a bit short, but maybe I’ve just been listening to too many 25+ hours audio books (Robert Jordan’s, fault I think :)

No Damien, No Peace
Kidding. Overall this is a good book, up to the series’ and the reader’s high standards for quality but the lack of the main viewpoint character is kinda annoying. I don’t hate Chambers or the spy ship, but that’s not what I come here for. Add on some of the points where I felt the author was purposefully padding the narrative out to extend the life of the book series and it’s a very meh part of the series.

well researched
excellent book with a great narrator. Glynn has done his homework for space navy design and space combat.

Rosalyn finally gets to shine
It could be a hint more bombastic, but we finally get to see Rosalyn in action. This book has an element of SA, but she never loses power in the situation and the issue doesn't drag down the story for those sensitive to it.

Rosalyn Chambers ignites!
Great expansion on the Star Mage universe of characters, taking a pivot to dive deeper into the front lines and expanding our introduction to Damien”s protege, Rosalyn Chambers.
Only negative is the misread by the narrator of the final few pages with the missed details regarding the description of the nature of her recognition…detracts from the build up and gravity of her story, sadly, which was a let down. Still, I enjoyed the book and have purchased the next one in Audible due to my great enjoyment of the authors” storytelling and overall enjoyment of the narrators’ performance to date.
