In 1975, Sam Candage, a fatherless twelve-year-old boy with learning challenges, strains to learn to read and write. Alone, he finds solace in nature, fishing and exploring his favorite creek. The moral compass faced in everyday life.
A heart warming experience… The characters came to love one another and demonstrated respect as well…an enjoyable relationship between Alton & Sam that gently shared life skills & lessons. I want to learn to fly fish after the lessons Dee gave…

Great imagery and story.
The story was told in a very visual way that made you feel like an observer. The narrator's tone helped build the emotion throughout the book.
