Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The Union-Congregate war rages onward, and the Union's premier fighter pilots, the Homo Eridanus, start encountering deadly resistance from strange pilots on the Congregate side. Among wreckage, they find that new Congregate pilots aren't human, but Homo quantus, with strange wiring and AI connections.

At the same time, the Puppets come to the Union with offers of an alliance for a dangerous price: the rescue of the geneticist Antonio Del Casal who is a captive at Venus, with over a hundred Homo quantus.

The only one who might be able to break through the Congregate defences at Venus is a con man who has given up his profession.

Had hoped for more

Not quite the ending I had envisioned, in my opinion the weakest of the three books, but still worth the read.

Wonderful Characters

I love this entire series and cannot recommend it enough. It thoughtfully weaves together science, explorations of faith, and human nature. Beautifully executed and cannot wait for the next one.

An excellent continuation of the Quantum saga.

This was an excellent continuation of the Quantum saga, and it tied in some of the novella House of Styx as well.

Almost everything Sci Fi has to offer

This book has it all; genetic alterations, quantum physics, AIs and every kind of possible future government model. The narrator's vocal rang was phenomenal.

I openly screamed at the end...... nope no no! when does the next book come out? I need to know! 🤯 that's not fair to leave it like that! damn I love this series! Also Miss TNT was my favorite character.... bring her back with or without a broken leg!

I mostly just came for the Vincent Stills...

But only mostly. I can't give this book a full review without massive spoilers. At least one of my favorite non-Stills characters died, but I don't know for sure exactly how many.

I got a dose of Stills to tide me over until the next book, I guess. Will there be a next book? I think my opinion of this book will depend on what happens in the next one.

In summary, I don't know what to make of this one. It was not what I expected, but regardless of where we ended up, I suppose I did enjoy the journey. If you liked the previous two, of course you'll want to get this one. If you haven't already read or listened to the first two books in this series, by all means, start with "The Quantum Magician" or you won't get the full experience.

The Characters Bring me Back

I like the storyline of this series, but T Ryder Smith’s narration brings the story and characters to life every time.

Kunsken took an uncommon approach in this book by not retelling the backstory of every character or narrating the “plot so far”. With that in mind, if you have not read/listened to the first two books, this one may be difficult or odd as a stand alone.

I have re-listened to the previous books several times and this book felt like I was meeting up with old friends.

Kunsken also spent more time developing other characters in this telling (the perceived “enemies” of the protagonists or less desirable flawed characters), par for the author’s course, you are left contemplating how gray life is instead of the easy finger pointing solutions of who is right and wrong.

Take time to listen through all the books, the characters are unique, and T Ryder Smith personifies them perfectly!

Good, but not as good as the 1st two.

The audio quality is not as bad as most of the reviews say, you would not want heavy base speakers though, headphones were good. If you enjoyed the first 2 stories you will enjoy this 3rd story as well, possibly not quite as good as the first, but I thought the first 2 were exceptional, hard to compare to that.

Multi-layered characters

This series has many redemptive aspects, the depth of the the characters is one of the most important factors. In time you fully appreciate the scope of the players and the antagonists aren't one dimensional in facts all the characters have flaws and most make poor judgments but that's what adds to the entire story.
