Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times-bestselling phenomenon Patrick Rothfuss returns to the wildly popular Kingkiller Chronicle universe with a stunning reimagining of "The Lightning Tree." Expanded to twice its previous length and lavishly illustrated by Nate Taylor, this touching stand-alone story is sure to please new audiences and veteran Rothfuss fans alike

No one taller than the stone. Come to blacktree, come alone. Tell no adult what’s been said, Lest the lightning strike you dead.

Follow the Kingkiller Chronicle’s most charming fae as he schemes his way through the small town of Newarre. While Bast cares nothing for the laws of man, he is beholden to older, deeper laws. And despite his cleverness and care, Bast finds himself forced to choose between betraying his master and helping a hated enemy.

Playful, sweet, and sly as Bast himself, The Narrow Road Between Desires explores a previously unseen part of Temerant, and shows a side of Bast we’ve only glimpsed before. Learn more about Bast as he goes against his better judgement and follows his heart’s desire.

For after all, what good is wisdom if it keeps you from finding your way to danger and delight?

the feeling of the last jagged puzzle piece slipping quietly into a portrait of something you thought you knew

I loved the beautiful author's note that tied everything together and helped support the story

A well created update of the older story.

another outstanding story from Mr. Rothfuss

Simple yet brilliant story telling as always. An absolute delight to learn more about Bast and what he gets up to in his spare time. I highly recommend this story and can't wait for the third book to come out

Great story, great writing

The Name of the Wind and Wise Man’s Fear are my favorite books. I’ve read them a dozen times and listened to the audiobook twice as many times as that. I never tire of Pat Rothfuss’ wordcraft or Nick Podehl’s delivery. Listening to this story takes me right back into Temerant where I have spent so much time and I loved every second. I gobbled this down in four straight hours, barely believing the time had flown by. Please do yourself the favor of diving into this book and the Kingkiller Chronicle. It’s a masterpiece of art.

A little of what I love most is what I really need

I like the Kingkiller series very much. The characters come up often in my home, and our favorite is Bast. It’s been an uncomfortably long wait for the next book, but what I really needed was this story. I still look forward to the next book, but for now I’m very happy having this.

Wow

Patrick knocked this story out of the park. The expansion of the character Bast really helped strengthen him overall in my mind

Pat writes the best comfort reads. Highly recommend The Slow Regard of Silent Things as well.

He does it again

I think people can dislike Patrick Rothfuss because of his perfectionistic way of writing, and argue that it takes too much time. And I couldn’t disagree more.

I think this story is a testament to how his process pays off. Yes, I did read the original book years ago. And every re-read they have gotten better. His books just make you feel things, and think about things, that is only possible through his writing style.

My point is that the wait is worth it. And every story he writes continues to be the best books I have ever read, and I’ve read a LOT of fantasy.

Congratulations to Patrick Rothfuss for a new amazing book. And if you are thinking about buying it, it is worth it.

…and Nick Podehl might be the best voice narrator I’ve ever listened to.
