Publisher's summary

The inspiration for evil may hold the key to murder in this edge-of-your-seat story from Mystery Writers of America Grand Master Jeffery Deaver.

Life appears to imitate art when a series of sadistic murders grips the city. Investigating the carefully orchestrated killings, Detective Gene Tripp and his partner discover that the perp might have been inspired by the best-selling novels and stories of popular thriller author Brody Pierce. Or has the demon of writer’s block driven Brody himself to step over the line between fiction and reality and exploit the dark side of his imagination?

As the detectives race to uncover the truth before more people die, they learn that perhaps yet another boundary has been crossed:

That between real life and the supernatural.

Interesting Short Story

I found "The Muse" to be an interesting short story right up until the end. The end of the story was unbelievable and poorly developed.

Glad I had time

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator was excellent. The quality of the narrator is a big deal and if a book is poorly narrated, I’m likely to ask for a refund or simply stop listening
It was very descriptive and kept my attention. The beauty of audio books is the freedom to continue to listen while doing other things!

Devilishly Delicious Food for Your Imagination

Only author Jeffrey Deaver can write a novella that keeps you enthralled from the first word to the last. His characters are fresh, interesting & blend smoothly into today's modern day world, so much so that you will surely be reading the daily news, just to keep tabs on their whereabouts! He manages to include a plot twist or two, certain to keep the armchair detective guessing and when you're sure that you've solved the crime, there's one last curve ball thrown your way just to keep you on your toes.... No question about it, this author is a master storyteller. I've enjoyed all of his novels including this novella. The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life. I've given this novel 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟 all around.

Thankfully free and short

Actually a decent story idea. Narration is solid. It’s the chapter to chapter transitions that are confusing, not the narrator. But once you get past those, the storyline is intriguing. The problem is the ending was not just a twist, it was unnecessarily rushed and included an unnecessary self inflicted death.
Unsatisfactory transitions and conclusion imho.

Good until the end

The storyline was great until the last twist. I feel like the ending was because the author just didn’t wanna write anymore. It didn’t feel wrapped up, it felt rushed.

I loved the ending. I very often find myself disappointed by endings. I really loved the fresh take on this one.

Pretty good for free...

I enjoyed this short thriller. Great for when you are between longer series. I thought the narration was excellent. I'm looking forward to the next in line...

Jury's still out on this one

Dunno ... liked it until the big reveal. That twist was far fetched when taken literally but figuratively I can under the message. Just a little messed up. Narration was good though
